Piracy at it’s height

February 12, 2007

We recently received emails from our fans all over India. From what we know, DJ Shezwood made a remix of BC Sutta. The remix is being aired on Channel V at the moment. Meghna Nandu is playing the role of a seductress in the video, who mesmerizes a group of people to set their belongings aside, which, obviously, includes the sutta.

Ms. Meghna says, “It has the same tune of the original song but instead of encouraging people to smoke, my song tells them to kick the butt.” Wait…Isn’t this piracy? She’s copying the tune of the original song without even letting the owners know. It is not like Zeest isn’t working anymore, or Zeest has officially given up music. We could understand her point only if we were down. Just because we didn’t release any other songs does not mean anyone can go around copying our song. Novacaine says in her blog entry, “The tune of the ‘Sutta Mix’ is going to be the same as the original track. How convenient! Never was a better excuse given to blatantly copy a song.”

Producer Gautham Sarumini, Director Lovel, Vocalist Saru Maini, DJ Shezwood & Ms. Meghna owe Zeest big time. They have absolutely no right to earn like that. There is something in this world known as “copyright laws”. They did not give credit to Zeest for using the melody of their song.
